I watched the livestream in 2016 all the while following the news feeds of my queer Facebook friends who were there in person. I felt a lot of hurt and anger then. I've come to surround myself with only accepting people, and while I still face daily reminders from random members of the public about how I'm lesser and don't belong in society, I'm more or less habituate to this rejection. Then I saw one of these young queer person, who was at General Synod, cry. And while I've handled being told by my own parent that my marrying the love of my life would devalue the institution of marriage and demean the marriages of straight people like my sister's (the mechanics of how are elude me to this day), watching a young person being tormented in this way, and the hurt, upset me greatly. I don't think at all that there's an equivalence of victimhood between group A saying "group B is lesser than group A and isn't worthy of marriage" and group B saying "we are worthy."

It is my understanding that those who do not believe in equal love will be forced neither to marry a gay person, nor to perform a marriage between homosexual people. If the canon was amended, would there be room for Churches to decide for themselves whether or not they would be affirming?

I find it slightly ironic that conservative people are feeling marginalized, when this has been the position for the queer community for so long.

Is there room for both views to co-exist in the Anglican Church of Canada? Can those who hold to a tradional biblical view of marriage that is only between a man and a woman accept those who believe an alternative interpretation of the bible allows for same sex marriage? Can those who believe in an alternative interpretation of the bible that allows for same sex marriage accept those who hold to a traditional biblical view of marriage that is only between a man and a women? Can we each do this with honest, direct, and respectful communication? I hope and pray we can.

This is never going to be resolved because the belief of many is tied to religious views and ideas related to ancient writings that have no place in our present society . Everything changes as time goes on , everything but the the church . If the church does not assess it’s teachings and culture it will continue to loose it’s congregations and become irrelevant .
This is terrible. The beginning of the end of our Anglican churches. If this vote goes through, save this text, because 10 years from now, our Anglican churches will be destroyed. Save this article, and then look back.
Are we not all God's children? Jesus is love. There is so little love in the world. Let's as Anglicans, set an example. The gay community needs family just like the straight community. If one parsed every word and sentence in the Bible, our outlook on many things would need to change. The gay community has always suffered discrimination, physical attacks, slurs, police raids and most of all, hate. Think of the young boy in the USA who was murdered, tied to a fence. All because he was gay. Let's open our arms and welcome the gay community....marriage included.
