The display area at General Synod has always been a marketplace for the Anglican Church of Canada’s life-from theological schools to vestments crafted by local artisans. This June, the goal at General Synod is to “bring Halifax into the synod…so that you really feel where you are,” says Becky Boucher of Anglican Video. “The East Coast has its own flavour and we want to bring those elements (in),” adds Boucher, an organizing team member.
Although at press time not all plans had been finalized, a nautical theme for both the display and plenary areas will serve as an homage to the province’s maritime culture. And the rallying cry for this year’s meeting is captured in the slogan: Feeling the Winds of God, Charting a New Course.
Lisa Barry, Anglican Video producer, promises the display area will be “a “vibrant and enriching” place that is rewarding for everyone. To this end, organizers are working to attract major corporate sponsors and 16 of the 30 display booths have already been taken.
At the 2007 General Synod, the display hall showcased art work for a silent auction that benefited various church appeals, including the Anglican Journal. It also featured an installation by Andrew Beck, set designer with the Royal Winnipeg Ballet.
