A workshop provided by a fabric artist specializing in liturgical apparel recently unleashed the creativity of Anglicans and Lutherans from The Pas, Man.
Marion Jenkins, co-coordinator of the Henry Budd College for Ministry (an academic institution under the auspices of the diocese of Brandon), had invited Winnipeg-based artist Iris Rountree to lead a workshop on how to make a liturgical stole at Christ Church The Pas.
After getting a brief history of the liturgical stole and showing examples of different styles, participants were given the task of making a reversible stole.
“As the fabric was cut and the stoles assembled, Iris gave step-by-step directions and much hands-on assistance, ranging from un-jamming sewing machine threads to advanced techniques for embellishments,” wrote Ms. Jenkins in an article for The Mustard Seed, the newspaper of the diocese of Brandon. “By late afternoon, all of the stoles were either complete or in a state that completion could happen at home.”
Participants included nine women and one man from the Church of the Messiah, Church of the Redeemer, and from Flin Flon, Man., First United Lutheran Church and St. Peter and St. James’ Church.
