Lewis and Tolkien and their emphasis on the reality and significance of the numinous, which is also mentioned in the article, I wonder about this:  At the last supper as recorded in the Bible, did Jesus sit with his disciples, in their midst?  Of course.  Was there a sense of the numinous there?  I am quite sure there was, without a high altar, an officiant with his back to the disciples, an &quot;officiant&quot; who washed their feet.  I suggest that the solution to moving the altar away from the wall is to put it in the centre of the congregation.]]></description>
