I feel that although you mention it in your piece, you've not adequately emphasized the brunt of "The Crown"'s exceedingly fine dramatization. Namely, to make of the Royal Family's confusions and shortcomings, mixed with their moments (albeit few) of true selflessness and compassion, the stuff of being human. Not gods, not kings, queens or emperors, but all too often mixed-up mortals. As for the rest of us, subjects loyal or otherwise, I'd suggest that the opportunity of observing this at such close range, and done so artfully, is a mighty gift to growth.

Thanks, Peter. I've watched the whole 4 episodes with such pleasure and, like you, no attitude. You've written less review and more deconstruction, and for me, the result is enriching. Your admiration of the production is evident and leaves me (and other readers) more fulfilled for having shared something worthwhile. Thanks.

Excellent review. I was a teeny bit disappointed myself by the season's tendency, some episodes, to hit the viewer over the head with the message. One episode seemed to suggest that as the royals delight in hunting deer (and salmon) so they themselves were legitimate targets for the IRA terrorists, which struck me as an odd equation. But it's definitely binge-worthy material. Sort of like a British K-Drama.

A meaningful perspective Peter. Thank you. As I make my way through this fourth season I ponder to what extent Morgan has captured the essence (dramatic license aside) of the Royal family and their future. As I reflect on the real news highlights of the Queen’s reign over my lifetime, her families narrative is rather gloomy and fraught with, as you aptly put, the seven deadly sins. If nothing else, The Crown reminds us the Royal family members are foremost, human, and mirror the challenges we all face. Your review of The Crown reminds me of the imperfect characters in the first five books of the Bible that God chose to lead.
