Jesus should not be weaponized by insisting that Muslims, Jews or anyone else must convert to the Christian faith. Jesus comes to save us from the sin of demonization of the other, and the arrogance of self-righteousness and calls us to work together with all who would build a kingdom of justice and peace here on earth.

I believe God loves variety in all things, just look at the diversity in the natural world. I do hope that the church votes and the primate signs so we can become officially a part of ‘ A Common Word’ … after all, we already are. I am so happy to read of this ecumenical work.

Christians are obligated to tell people who are not Christian that their sin separates them from a holy God, but that in His love, Jesus offers a way to deal with their sin, whether guilt or shame motivates them to resist. Muslim evangelism is particularly difficult because they have little regard for the Scriptures, and much regard for a false prophet. Still, efforts at sharing the good news of Jesus’ sacrificial death on the cross must be made.
