The diocese of Niagara launched a series of radio and newspaper advertisements aimed at bringing newcomers or lapsed Anglicans back to the church. With a lighthearted tone but a serious message, the ads include an invitation to lunch from Bishop Ralph Spence. “The Anglican church is a friendly place,” said Bishop Spence in one of the radio spots. “If you visit one of our churches and someone doesn’t welcome you with a sincere smile, let me know. I’ll buy you lunch.” The diocese is currently assessing the campaign’s success but has heard anecdotally that attendance was up in many Niagara churches over Christmas.
