Choral Evensong is very much alive and well on the Sunshine Coast of British Columbia. Our Vespersong Choir consists of twelve singers drawn from the communities of Pender Harbour, Sechelt, Roberts Creek and Gibsons and is led by organist and choir master, David Poon. We rehearse at St. Bartholomew's Anglican Church in Gibsons, and lead Choral Evnsong in churches from Gibsons to Pender Harbour - a span of 55 kilometres.

Our last service in March - before COVID shut down church gatherings - featured Orlando di Lasso's "IO Vos Omnes", Preces and Responses for the Short Service by Richard Ayleward, Anglican Psalm chants by Edward Bairstow, A Stanford "Magnificat" and "Nunc Dimitis", and Stanford's "Oh! for a closer walk with God". William Byrd, Thomas Tallis, Thomas Tompkins, Thomas Weelkes are also favourite sources for our liturgies. We draw chiefly on music from the 15th to 20th centuries including a wide variety of Anglican Pslam chants, keeping alive a great Christian worship tradition in our little corner of the world.
