From the article, " ... the [ General Synod] pension plan, which is administered by the Pension Office Corporation, an entity separate from General Synod—is not governed by the decisions of CoGS." That is a good thing. Pension plan members ought not to be surrogates for a politcal agenda.

The Pension Plan has a fiduciary obligation to its members. It has been doing a terrific job for its members during what have been very challenging financial times. The Plan already had effective ESG measures in place before the Responsible Investing Task Group was created--in fact, the GSPP has been a positive resource for the Task Group. I hope GSPP members are reading their newsletters and keeping up to date. The newsletters are also available on the Pension website.

As for the environment, has The National Church done a carbon footprint audit for the meetings of CoGS, House of Bishops, and General Synod? One wonders how much jet fuel is being expended flying people to and from National Church gabfests.

One wonders as well, if The Journal no longer had editorial independence, would this story simply be a rosy press release from GS communications?
