St. Dunston’s Church in Aldergrove, B.C., in the diocese of New Westminster, sustained more than $200,000 in damage after a Halloween firebombing and will likely have to be rebuilt. After the fire, Sunday service attendance at a nearby school increased, said Rev. Beverly Stewart, the rector (shown in photograph.)
During the first Sunday service following the fire, members of a local Mennonite church brought food and a cheque for $1,100.
The church had severe smoke and fire damage. Firefighters were able to save the church floor structure and the church hall in the basement.
Damage is covered by a diocesan fire insurance policy, which is expected to cover replacement costs.
