Holy Trinity Anglican church in Sooke, B.C. reopened on Dec. 15 in a new building after a disastrous fire two-and-a-half years ago.
The rededication service included a blackened collection plate and a depiction of Christ with a crown of burned shards of stained glass.
The fire destroyed the parish’s 93-year-old building, but members of the congregation praised the new, light-filled sanctuary. During the rebuilding, the 80-member Anglican congregation worshipped as guests at several local churches, including the Roman Catholic and Seventh Day Adventist denominations.
Rev. Philip Wadham, the rector, said he was looking forward to using the new space. Among Holy Trinity’s services to the community is Friday lunch open to anyone in need.
