One burned and resurrected church – St. John’s, Lunenburg, N.S. – raised funds last December for another church struggling to rebuild after a fire: St. Jude’s Cathedral, Iqaluit, Nunavut.
Between Dec. 1 and 2, St. John’s raised about $21,000 with such Arctic-themed events as Inuit games and igloo building for children and families, a silent auction of Inuit crafts and art and a “Northern Light Concert” featuring jazz musician Peter Togni.
St. John’s, one of the most historic Anglican churches in Canada, was gutted by fire in 2001 and subsequently completely rebuilt. St. Jude’s was destroyed by arson in 2005 and has not yet been restored.
