This week, Dr. Rowan Williams, Archbishop of Canterbury, will chair the 11th annual Building Bridges seminar in London and Canterbury, Apr. 23 to 25
This year’s theme is “Death, Resurrection and Human Destiny: Christian and Muslim Perspectives.”
As in previous Building Bridges seminars, a number of texts from the Christian and Islamic traditions will provide a basis for discussion in a program that includes public lectures and private sessions.
This year’s lectures will be given at King’s College, London, by Bishop Tom Wright, Professor Mona Siddiqui, Bishop Geoffrey Rowell, Professor Asma Afsaruddin, the Rev. Dr. Harriet Harris and Dr. Sajjad Rizvi.
Last year’s seminar took place in Qatar and focused on prayer.
Since 2002, the Archbishop of Canterbury has chaired the annual seminar, which brings together leading Muslim and Christian scholars from around the world to explore issues at the heart of the two traditions. This will be the last of these seminars that Dr. Williams will chair before taking up his new post in Cambridge at the end of this year.
Plans are in place for Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., to continue this initiative.
