PWRDF coordinator

Suzanne Rumsey, a 10-year veteran with the Inter-Church Committee on Human Rights in Latin America (ICCHRLA), has joined the Primate’s World Relief and Development Fund as program coordinator, Latin America/Caribbean program.

Ms. Rumsey, who speaks Spanish fluently, was responsible for policy and advocacy work on behalf of Canadian churches at ICCHRLA.

Originally from British Columbia, Ms. Rumsey lived in the diocese of Kootenay and was involved in Anglican youth ministry. She has been involved with several national church committees including the national youth unit, the Interchurch-Interfaith Relations committee and the Partners in Mission consultation task force.

Ms. Rumsey served as a commissioner on the World Council of Churches’ commission on the Churches’ Participation in Development from 1984 to 1991.

Thorneloe University

Rev. Stephen Andrews, formerly rector of the Cathedral Church of St. Alban the Martyr and dean of Saskatchewan diocese, has been appointed president and vice-chancellor of Thorneloe University, Sudbury.

Mr. Andrews was ordained in Nova Scotia in 1986, and studied theology at Regent College in Vancouver and Wycliffe College at the University of Toronto. He has served in parishes in Vancouver and Halifax and completed his doctorate of philosophy from Cambridge University.

Mr. Andrews has been active in general synods and served on the faith, worship and ministry committee, which recently completed work on standards of training for ordination.

Mr. Andrews moved to Sudbury with his wife Fawna and children Clare, 1, and Ellen, 8, during the summer.

Editor named

Paul Sherwood of Halifax is the new editor of The Diocesan Times, the newspaper of the diocese of Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island.

Mr. Sherwood grew up on Cape Breton Island and earned a bachelor’s degree in physics and a master’s degree in business administration from Dalhousie University. He operates his own information technology company, Decision Software, in Halifax.

He succeeds Robert Martin, who has moved to Ontario.

Bible society chair

The Canadian Bible Society has named Canon Christopher Pratt as its new chair.

Mr. Pratt is rector of St. George’s Anglican Church, Owen Sound, Ont. and has served for seven years as the society’s Central Ontario district board representative. He succeeds Rev. Robert Thompson.

The Canadian Bible Society translates, publishes and distributes the Bible in Canada and around the world in partnership with the United Bible Societies, which is a fellowship of more than 120 national Bible societies. The Bible is now available in 2,261 languages, an increase of 28 languages over the past year.
