Coming this August is an audacious and historic compilation of the sacred writings of Jews, Christians and Muslims— Abraham’s family or the “People of the Book,” as they are referred to in Islam.

Edited by the Rev. Dr. Brian Arthur Brown, a United Church of Canada theologian and minister, Three Testaments: Torah, Gospel, and Quran features respected English translations of the complete texts of the Torah, the New Testament and the Quran.

Each is prefaced by scholars who are also active members of in their respective faith groups, with additional commentary on prevailing conditions in ancient times. Seven years in the making, the edition features a coffee table format, parchment-look cover, calligraphy, charts and artwork.

According to Dr. Brown, the scriptural trilogy points out that these writings, sacred to the family of Abraham, Sarah and Hagar, are all related, telling many of the same stories but from differing perspectives. They are also supplementary—critiquing, confirming and amplifying one another in ways that can lead the often-warring members of this ancient family to better mutual understanding today.

A series of scheduled launch events in six cities across Canada and the U.S. will provide faith leaders with a forum for speaking about this shared spiritual history. The Canadian launch takes place in Toronto on Sept. 27.
