Alice Kathleen Baxter

Alice Baxter, wife of the late Bishop Neville Clarke and Kenneth Baxter, died on Aug. 26 in Orillia, Ont. in her 97th year. She was also mother of Bishop John Clarke, who recently retired as metropolitan of the Ecclesiastical Province of Rupert’s Land.

From 1938 to 1975, she assisted her husband Bishop Clarke in northern Ontario in his ministry, as well as being a teacher, organist and occasionally the primary first aid giver in the community. After his death, she moved to Toronto to continue her mission work with native people within the diocese of Toronto.

Mrs. Baxter was active in the Anglican Church of Canada and was diocesan president of the Women’s Auxiliary for many years.

She had four children, 10 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
