A new day for Cuba

Nerva Cot Aguillera (centre, with female colleagues) recently became the first woman Anglican bishop in the developing world. Bishop Cot and Archdeacon Ulises Mario Aguero Prendes were consecrated suffragan (assistant) bishops of the Cuban Episcopal Church on June 10. They were appointed in February by the Metropolitan Council of Cuba, which is chaired by the Canadian primate, Archbishop Andrew Hutchison. He was one of many bishops from Europe, and North, Central, and South America who participated in the ceremony, which also included representatives of other Cuban faith traditions.
