Looking back at history Christianity has been guilty of as many sins as many other religions of ages past. After all the Jewish people were the first to practice genocide when they went to occupy the land they came to from Egypt. The need for land has been the target for all people ,as the example of the Europeans in search of land occupying the American Continents . The Jewish people were ill treated abroad as they instigated all the persecution of the the Cross of CHRIST & continued with the persecution of all the apostles & successors till the fall of the Roman Empire. All empires have ill treated their subjects ,so have all kings & rulers all through the years. The Romans enslaved all the conquered as did the Persians,Greeks, Turks as all the colonial powers who carried slaves to work their plantations & mines. Mans in humanity to man has been the only constant through the centuries and only CHRIST called on people to forgive your enemies and love your neighbour as yourself.

i'm very sad when I read the above comment. It seems that so many leaders in the church and government are now being defamed because of the wrongs they did. I won't deny that Luther was right in his anti-semitic views, or that other leaders have done wrong. However, they have done many other things to improve church/ society We seem to be in danger of 'throwing out the baby with the bath water'. Luther said we are both saints and sinners.

Luther's anti-semitism which was virulent laid the ground for centuries of persecution of the Jews. I understand what he did contribute but I feel very ambivalent about really embracing this event.
